Prose and Poetry Contest 2014
1st place
Chronicle
E agora?!
Ai, e agora?! Minha nossa, olha a hora!
Meu Deus, e agora?! Olha a hora!

Author's note: In 2014, I was in High School and decided to participate in my school's prose and poetry contest, in which each category (short story, chronicle and poem) would have an award for the three best texts. I chose to write a chronicle for the contest. The theme was "time" and, supposing that other people would write something deeper, philosophical, I decided to give my story a more comical tone. I thought, wrote, read, rethought, rewrote, reread, repeated the process a hundred times and, even still not satisfied with the story, I submitted it to the contest committee. On the award day, I waited for my category. "In third place...!" Not me. "In second place...!" Also not me, I even lost hope. Then, "in first place...!" I was flabbergasted, I cheered, went there to get the prize, might have taken a photo with the person that was announcing the results, celebrated with my friends, I was so excited! Here I leave the chronicle that I wrote as a sweet memory of that time.
What now?!
Oh, what now?! The time, oh wow! I decide to play "fall in love" and couldn't stop. I loved, loved, loved. Proposed. Now, the bride must be at the altar, waiting for a groom who is late because he was watching a movie about time. About a protagonist who earned time during a time in which he didn't have time.
Gosh, what now?! I have to take a shower, quick. I can't take any longer, I can't. I ran out of shampoo. Great. I'll have to improvise and just use the soap. Scrubbing here and there, just like that and done, I fly out of the shower, taking a towel and running almost naked to my room to get dressed.
Everything seems to be in order. Wedding suit, check. Tie, check. Handkerchief, check. Shoes... The shoes! Oh no! No, no, no! I ransack wardrobes, drawers, blankets and beds so that, finally, I remember that I've placed them in the front door.
After I put the shoes on, I calmly go back to the bathroom. I apply my cologne, my deodorant, and as I brush my teeth, I check my wristwatch, almost swallowing the toothbrush.
Dear God, what now?! The time, oh wow! I am late, much more than late, extremely late! I take the house and the car keys. Open the door, close the door, lock the door and I go to the garage to, again, unlock the door, open the door, close the door, start the engines and go to the church.
Finally arriving, I see that the place is deserted. Intrigued by it, I call my bride, wanting to understand what was going on.
- But darling, – she started – the wedding is tomorrow!
Amei a nota da autora tbm. Parabéns!
